熱帯アメリカ原産の「あおのりゅうぜつらん（青の竜舌蘭）」の園芸品種です。葉は線状披針形で、葉縁に黄白色の斑が入るのが特徴です。葉の長さは２．５メートルになります。耐寒性が強く、わが国でも暖地では露地で栽培されています。ふつうに「りゅうぜつらん（竜舌蘭）」といえば、本種のことを指します。

The Variegated agave (Agave americana cv. Marginata) belongs to Agavaceae (the Agave family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is a horticultural variety of the "Agave" native to tropical America. The leaves are linear-lanceolate with yellowish-white spots on the margins. The leaves are 2.5 m long. It is cold hardy and is cultivated in open fields in warm climates in Japan. The name "Ryuzetsu-ran" usually refers to this species in Japan.
