The "Fumoto-shida" (Microlepia marginata) belongs to Dennstaediaceae (the Bracken family). It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from the southern Tohoku region of Honshu south to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula, China, the Himalayas, and Southeast Asia. It grows in woodlands in the mountains and grows 60 to 120 cm tall. The leaves are single-pinnate, yellowish green to dark green, and grassy. The pinnae are usually less than 20 pairs, with short hairs on the surface of the pinnae on the midrib and on the entire underside. The sorus is attached to the pinna near the margins, and the indisum is cup-shaped. It is called "邊縁鱗蓋蕨" in Tiawanese Chinese and "邊縁鱗蓋蕨" (bian yuan lin gai jue) in Chinese.
