わが国の各地に分布する「てんにんそう（天人草）」の一品種です。とくに富士山周辺に多く分布するといわれます。山地の木陰や草地に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉は長楕円形から広披針形で対生します。８月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に穂状花序をだし、淡黄色の唇形花を咲かせます。「てんにんそう」とは、花序のすぐ下の葉の裏面中肋や花梗に開出毛が多いことで区別されます。

シソ科テンニンソウ属の多年草で、学名は Leucosceptrum srellipilum f. barbinerve。英名はありません。

"Fuji-tennin-so" (Leucosceptrum srellipilum f. barbinerve) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is a variety of "Tennin-so" distributed in various parts of Japan. It is said to be especially abundant around Mt. Fuji. It grows in the shade of trees and grassland in mountainous areas and grows to a height of about 1 m. The leaves are oblong to broadly lanceolate and opposite. From August to October, it produces spikes at the top of stems and produces pale yellow labiate flowers. It is distinguished from "Tennin-so" by the abundance of open hairs on the midrib of the underside of the leaf just below the inflorescence and peduncle.
