The softstem bulrush (Scirpus tabernaemontani) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Eurasian Continent and North America. This herb grows gregariously in ponds and swamps, and it can reach 80-200 cm in height. The stem is yellowish-green, cylindric and bears sheaths. The yellowish-brown spikelets are borne atop of irregular clustes from July to September.
