The Hydrangea 'Spring Angel Frill Elegance' belongs to Hydrangeaceae (the Hydrangea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is a garden hybrid between the "Kara-kon-terigi (Hydrangea chinensis)" and the "Hydrangea 'Charming Blue Ring' (Hydrangea macrophylla cv. Charming Blue Ring)", and it was created at Gunma Agricultural Technology Center in 2004. Since this tree does not sleep in winter, if it has a certain temperature or higher, it grows and blooms throughout the year. Hydrangea 'Spring Angel Frill Elegance' is characterized by evergreening, seasonal blooming and giant flower. The mother strain (ovary parent) was used in "Kara-kon-terigi (Hydrangea chinensis)" distributed from the Nansei Islands of Japan, Taiwan, southeastern part of China, and the Philippines. It is shade tolerant, nodormant and seasons blooming. The father strain (pollen parent) was used in "Hydrangea macrophylla cv. Charming Blue Ring" created by Keiichi Onai of Gunma prefecture, it is a "Lacecap hydrangea (bisexual flowers at center, neuter flowers at around the periphery)"-type hydrangea.
