The Centipede tongavine (Epipremnum pinnatum) belongs to Araceae (the Arum family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed from the Nansei Islands of Japan to Taiwan, southern China and Southeast Asia. It grows in subtropical and tropical moist forests, and climbs up rocks and tree trunks with adhesive roots. The stem grows long and puts out roots from the nodes, and can be 5 to 10 m long. The leaves are broadly ovate-elliptic in shape, 20 to 50 cm long, thin and leathery, and deeply incised. The leaf stalk is long, and the edge has a membranous wing, which enfolds the stem at the base. In May or June, it produces a spadix. The spathe at the base of the spadix is white-green in color, and when it opens, it bends back and falls off immediately. In Taiwanese Chinese, it is called "拎樹藤" and "麒麟葉" (qi lin ye) in Chinese.
