The Dwarf Siberian pine (Pinus pumila) belongs to Pinaceae (the Pine family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido of Japan, as well as the Kamchatska Peninsula and eastern Siberia. This tree grows in subalpine to alpine screes and it can reach 1-2 m in height. The branches spread by creeping on the grounds. This tree often forms vast clumps. The leaves are linear and five per bundled. The flowers come in June and the small strobiles ripen in next year's summer to fall. The seed is a food for rock ptarmigan.
