"Hashi-kanboku" (Bredia hirsut) belongs to Melastmataceae (the Melastome family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in the Ryukyu Chain, Yakushima, Tanegashima to Amami Ooshima, Okinawa, Ishigaki, Iriomote and Yonaguni Island. This shurb grows in somewhat wet road sides and mountain skirts, and up tp a height of 30-100 cm. The cross section of the stem is round, the leaves are thin leathery, ovate to ovate-oblong with fine low saw teeth. Also on both sides of the leaves, hair grows sparsely. From July to September, pale pink to white flowers will bloom in the cymes atop of stems.
