わが国の各地に分布する「きぶし」の変種です。八丈島などの伊豆諸島に分布しています。海岸近くの山野に生え、高さは３〜５メートルになります。雌雄異株です。葉は長楕円形から卵形で互生し、母種よりも大きいのが特徴です。３月から４月ごろ、葉の展開前に総状花序を下垂させ、淡黄色の花を咲かせます。花も母種よりも大型です。

キブシ科キブシ属の落葉低木で、学名は Stachyurus praecox var. matsuzakii。英名はありません。

The "Hachijo-kibushi" (Stachyurus praecox var. matsuzakii) belongs to the family Stachyuraceae. It is a small deciduous tree that is a variety of "Kibushi". It is distributed to the Izu Island chain (e.g. Hachijo Island). This tree grows in coastal mountains and fields and can reach 3-5 m in height. It is dioecious. The leaves are oblong to ovate, alternate and larger than a host species. The hanging racemes are borne and bloom pale yellow flowers before foliation from March to April. The flowers are larger than a host species.
