"Hakone-giku" (Aster viscidulus) belongs to the Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Kanto and Chubu district of Honshu. This herb grows in montane to sub-alpine, sunny grasslands or rocky places, and can reach 35-65 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-elliptic to narrow-lanceolate and clumping. The white to pale purple, about 25 mm across, flowerheads bloom from August to October. The bracts are sticky.
