アブラナ科アブラナ属の二年草で、学名は Brassica campestris var. amplexicaulis。英名は Chinese cabbage。
The Chinese cabbage (Brassica campestris var. amplexicaulis) belongs to Brassiaceae (the Mustard family). It is a biennial herb that is native to northern China. This herb was introduced into Japan in the last days of Edo Era (about 160 years ago) and became widespread in Meiji Era. The leaves bulb up from inside. The flowering stalks are borne and bloom yellow flowers in spring. Japanese radish, Bean curd and Chinese cabbage are called "Three treasures of Yang Sheng (curing)" in China.
