はくさんしゃくなげ (白山石楠花)

わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、それに四国の石鎚山に分布しています。亜高山帯の針葉樹林からハイマツ低木林の林下に生え、高さは１〜２メートルになります。長楕円形の葉は厚くて外側に巻き込み、葉柄があります。６月から７月ごろ、枝先に白色から淡紅色、淡いクリーム色などの花を１０〜２０個ほど咲かせます。 |

ツツジ科ツツジ属の常緑低木で、学名は Rhododendronbrachycarpum。英名はありません。 |

"Hakusan-shakunage" (Rhododendron brachycarpum) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed norhward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido, and Mt. Ishizuchi of Shikoku in Japan. This tree grows in sub-alpine coniferous forests or thickets of Dwarf Siberian pine, and can reach 1-2 m in height. The leaves are thick, petiolated and convolute outside. The flowers are white, pale rose pink or pale cream, and 10-20 flowers bloom on the terminal branches from June to July. |
