The "Hakusan-chidori" (Orchis aristata) belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district to Hokkaido in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula and the North Pacific Region. This herb grows in marshes from montain to alpine zone and can reach 10-40 cm in height. The leaves are broad linear and alternate. The flowers come in the raceme from June to August. The flowers have various colors, from magenta to pale pink. Its Japanese name is derived from the shape of its flowers, which resemble plovers.
