わが国の各地に分布していますが、古い時代に渡来した「だいこん」が野生化したものといわれています。海岸の砂地に生え、高さは３０〜７０センチになります。葉は羽状に深裂します。４月から６月ごろ、淡紅紫色の花を咲かせます。根はあまり太くならず、食用には向きません。

The Japanese wild radish (Raphanus sativus var. raphanistroides) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a biennial herb that is distributed widely in Japan. It is thought that the species is a feral radish which was introduced into Japan in ancient days. This herb grows in sandy shore and can reach about 30 cm in height. The leaves are devided into fronds deep pinnately. Pale magenta flowers come in April to June. The root is not so swollen and unfit to eat.
