The "Hama-fuuro" (Geranium miyabei) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed the Sea of Japan coast from the northern part of the Tohoku region to Hokkaido, well as the Kuril Islands. It grows in coastal grasslands and sandy areas, reaching a height of 30 to 80 cm. Its leaves are pentagonal and palmately five-lobed; they are characterized by shallow incisions and broad lobes. Compared to "Ezo-fuuro", it has noticeably fewer hairs overall. From around July to August, it produces reddish-purple flowers at the tips of its flower stalks. It is characterized by the overlapping bases of the petals and the sparse, outward-pointing hairs on the sepals.
