わが国の本州と伊豆諸島に分布しています。「つりがねにんじん」の海岸型品種です。海岸の草地に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は長楕円形で厚く、光沢があり、縁には鋸歯があります。３〜４個が輪生します。８月から１０月ごろ、茎先に円錐花序をだし、淡い紫色の花を咲かせます。花冠は釣り鐘形で、先端が５裂します。

キキョウ科ツリガネニンジン属の多年草で、学名は Adenophora triphylla var. japonica f. glabra。英名はありません。

"Hama-shajin" (Adenophora triphylla var. japonica f. glabra) belongs to Campanulaceae (the Bellflower family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Honshu and the Izu Islands. It is a coastal form of Ladybells (Adenophora triphylla var. japonica). This herb grows in coastal grasslands and can reach 30-60 cm in height. The leaves are oblong, thick, glossy with toothed edges. They are arranged 3-4 in whorls. The panicles are borne on terminal stems, and the pale purple flowers bloom from August to October. The corolla is bell-shaped and quintuple-lobate at the tips.
