わが国の九州南西部から琉球列島に分布しています。海岸の岩場に生え、高さは２０〜４０センチになります。葉は長楕円形から倒卵状楕円形で対生し、やや肉質、基部は茎を抱きます。８月から１０月ごろ、茎頂に総状花序をだし、青紫色の花を咲かせます。雄しべは２個、雌しべは１個で、花冠から突き出します。

ゴマノハグサ科ルリトラノオ属の多年草で、学名は Pseudolysimachion sieboldianum。英名はありません。

"Hama-torano-o" (Pseudolysimachion sieboldianum) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from the south-western Kyushu to the Ryukyu Islands. This herb grows in the coastal rocky places and can reach 20-40 cm in height. The leaves are oblong to obovate-elliptic, arranged oppositely, semi-fleshy and the base of leaves enfold stems. The raceme are borne on the top of stems and the blue-purple flowers bloom from August to October. The two stamens and a pistil protrude from the corolla.
