The Graygreen reindeer lichen (Cladonia rangiferina) belongs to the family Cladoniaceae. It is a lichen that is widely distributed throughout Japan, as well as across the Northern Hemisphere and South America. It grows on the ground and on rocks from lowlands to high mountains, reaching a height of 5 to 12 cm. It is a tree-like lichen; its thallus is hollow and erect, ranging in color from grayish-white to yellowish-white, and branches repeatedly at varying lengths. This species also grows in the tundra and serves as food for reindeer during the winter.
