わが国の本州、中部地方の長野県から岐阜・愛知県に分布しています。雌雄異株で、山地の湿地に生えます。葉は浅く３裂し、葉柄は淡紅色をしています。４月ごろ、紅色の花を咲かせます。名前はこの花が美しいことから。

カエデ科カエデ属の落葉高木で、学名は Acer pycnanthum。英名はありません。

"Hana-no-ki" (Acer pycnanthum) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is native to the Chubu district of Japan, from Nagano to Gifu and Aichi Prefectures. It is dioecious and grows in montane marshes. The leaves are shallowly divided into 3 lobes with pale rose-pink petioles. The rose-pink flowers bloom in April. (edit by Greg Brockelbank)
