中国の南西部、四川省に分布しています。一科一属一種です。高さは１０〜１５メートルになり、植物園や公園でよく利用されています。５月から６月ごろ、白い大きな苞のある花を咲かせます。この白い苞のかたちから、「はとのき（鳩の木）」とか「ゆうれいのき（幽霊の木）」とも呼ばれます。中国語では「珙桐（gong tong）」です。

ダビディア科ハンカチノキ属の落葉高木で、学名は Davidia involucrata。英名は Dove tree。

The Dove tree (Davidia involucrata) is a tall deciduous tree that is native to south central and southwestern China; from Hubei to southern Gansu, south to Guizhou, Sichuan and Yunnan. It is the only species in the family Davidiaceae and the genus Davidia. This tree can reach 10-15 m in height. The flowers with white, large bracts appear in May through June. The common name is derived from the shape of it's white bracts. It is called "珙桐" (gong tong) in Chinese.
