The "Hakone-oo-kujaku" (Dryopteris x hakonecola) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from the Tohoku region to the Kinki region of Honshu and Kyushu. It grows on the forest floor in mountainous areas and on the slopes along streams, and is 50 to 90 cm tall. It is an interspecific hybrid between the "Oo-kujaku-shida" (Dryopteris dickinsii) and the "O-kuma-warabi" (Dryopteris uniformis). The leaves are pinnate compound, yellowish-green to green in color, slightly glossy and of a slightly thick papery texture. There are 15 to 20 pairs of pinnae. The veins on the upper surface of the pinnae are deeply grooved, and the secondary veins are mixed with those that fork. The sorus is located on the upper half of the leaf blade, and is located closer to the margin on the lower half, and slightly in the middle on the upper half. The indehiscent capsule is reniform.
