The Duabanga (Duabanga grandiflora) belongs to the family Sonneratiaceae. It is a tall evergreen tree that is distributed from southern Yunnan Province in China to the Indochina Peninsula and eastern India. It grows in valleys and rivers in humid tropical biomes and reaches a height of 18 to 30 m. The leaves are ovate to oblong, dark green, hard, with short pointed tips, and opposite. In spring, corymbs appear at the tips of the branches and white six-petaled flowers bloom. The flowers have numerous stamens and an unpleasant odor. The flowers bloom in the evening and last until nightfall. The fruit is a subglobose capsule 2 to 4 cm long. The wood is used for making boxes and furniture. In Chinese, it is called "" (ba bao shu). The genus name comes from the name "Duyabangga" used in the state of Tripura in northeastern India.
