わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道、紀伊半島の大峰山系、四国の石鎚山に分布しています。亜高山帯のやや湿ったところに生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。全体に針状の棘が密生します。６月から７月ごろ、円錐花序に緑白色の花を咲かせます。果実は赤く熟します。別名で「くまだら」とか「じごくばら」とも呼ばれます。 |

ウコギ科ハリブキ属の落葉小低木で、学名は Oplopanax japonicus。英名はありません。 |

The "Hari-buki" (Oplopanax japonicus) belongs to Araliaceae (the Ginseng family). It is a deciduous shrub that is distributed to the Oomine Mountains in the Kii Peninsula, the Mt. Ishizuchi in Shikoku and northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido in Japan. This shrub grows in sub-alpine wettish places and can reach about 1 m in height. The shrub is covered with dense needle-like spines. The greenish white flowers bloom in the panicles from June to July. The fruits ripen red. Also known as "Kuma-dara" or "Jigoku-bara" in Japan. |
