The "Harigane-warabi" (Thelypteris japonica) belongs to the family Thelypteridaceae. It is a summer-green fern that is distributed from Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan, as well as Taiwan, the Korean Peninsula and China. It grows commonly in forests and along the edges of forests, and is 50 to 80 cm tall. The leaf stalk is 25 to 35 cm long, thin and hard, and reddish brown in color. The leaf blade is green to light green, 30 to 35 cm long, triangular-oblong in shape, and twice pinnately parted, with a pointed tip. The pinnae are lanceolate, with a caudate apex, and there are 10 to 20 pairs. The lowest pinna is slightly turned downwards and opens in an inverted v shape. In Taiwanese, it is called "ŒI•¿Ÿ ˜±‹à¯˜n", and in Chinese, it is called "Œõ‹r‹à¯˜n" (guang jiao jin xing jue).
