ヨーロッパから北アジアが原産です。わが国へは明治時代に牧草として導入されました。今では帰化して、道端や草地に生えています。高さは３０〜４５センチほどで、茎には疎らに毛が生えます。４月から７月ごろ、円錐状の花序をだし花を咲かせます。白い糸のように見えるのは、外に突き出した柱頭です。乾燥させるとクマリンのよい香りがあります。 |

イネ科ハルガヤ属の多年草で、学名は Anthoxanthum odoratum。英名は Sweet vernal grass。 |

The Sweet vernal grass (Anthoxanthum odoratum) belongs to Poaceaea (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Europe and North Asia. It was introduced into Japan as a meadow grass in Meiji Era (about 130 years ago). Nowadays it is naturalized in roadsides and meadows. This grass can reach 30-45 cm in height and the stems are covered with sparse hairs. The panicles are borne and bloom flowers from April to July. The exserted stigmas seem like white threads. The dried plants have a flavor of coumarin odor. |
