The Fullmoon maple (Acer japonicum) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is endemic to Japan, and distributed from Hokkaido to Honshu. This tree grows in montane dales or slopes and can reach 5-10 m in height. The leaves are palmately divided into 7-11 lobes with acute tips and duplicato-serratus edges. The small dark-red to magenta flowers bloom in the terminal compound corymbs from April to May. The 8th photo is the cultivar "Ooisami" and the 9th photo is the US-bred cultivar "Aimitidoi".
