アメリカの中部、オクラホマ州からアラバマ州にかけて分布しています。河岸の砂礫地に生え、高さは３メートルほどになります。基部から数多くの枝をだします。葉は卵円形から楕円形で互生します。冬の終わりから早春に、オレンジ色に赤みがかった花を咲かせます。紐状の花弁は非常に細く、４個あります。

マンサク科マンサク属の落葉低木で、学名は Hamamelis vernalis。英名は Ozark witch-hazel、Witch-hazel。

The Ozark witch-hazel (Hamamelis vernalis) belongs to Hamamelidaceae (the Witch hazel family). It is a small deciduous tree that is found in the central United States, from Oklahoma to Alabama. It grows in sandy or gravelly areas along riverbanks and grows to about 3 m tall. It produces numerous branches from its base. The leaves are ovate-round to elliptic and alternate. It produces orange-reddish flowers in late winter or early spring. The cordate petals are very thin, with four petals.
