メキシコが原産です。高さは３０〜９０センチほどになり、茎は赤く、葉は「やなぎ（柳）」のようなかたちをしています。夏から晩秋にかけて、初めは黄色く時間がたつとオレンジ色に変化する花を咲かせます。花のように見えるのは萼で、長い雄しべが突きだし、やや粘りけのある物質が滲み出しています。ハミングバードの好物です。

ミソハギ科クフェア属の常緑小低木で、学名は Cuphea micropetala。英名は Candy corn plant。

The Candy corn plant (Cuphea micropetala) belongs to Lythraceae (the Loosestrife family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Mexico. It grows 30-90 cm tall with red stems and willow-like leaves. From summer to late fall, it produces flowers that are yellow at first and change to orange over time. What looks like a flower is a calyx, with long stamens protruding and exuding a slightly sticky substance. It is a favorite food of hummingbirds.
