The Wax tree (Rhus succedanea) belongs to Anacardiaceae (the Sumac family). It is a tall deciduous tree that is distributed widely westward from Kanto district of Honshu to Shikoku, Kyushu of Japan and Southeast Asia. This tree grows in mountains and fields and can reach 7-10 m in height. The are odd-pinnate compound with 4-8 pairs of broad-lanceolate leaflets. It is dioecious. The panicles are borne and the small yellowish green flowers bloom from May to June. The fruits are drupes and ripen pale brown in fall. The wax is obtained from the inner endocarps, and used as raw material of Japanese candle. This tree may be rarely cause a skin irritation. It is called "木蝋樹" in Taiwan Chinese and "野漆" (ye qi) in Chinese.
