The showy hebe (Hebe speciosa) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a small evergreen tree That is native to New Zealand. This tree grows on coastal cliffs and headlands, and it can reach about 1-2 m in height. The leaves are dark green, shiny, ovate, and quite thick. The pale pink to bright magenta flowers bloom in the spikes throughout the year. The stamens are two, very long, and protrude from the throat of each flower. The fruit is a capsule containing flat, smooth seeds.
