地中海のコルシカ島およびサルジニア島が原産です。他のヘレボルス属とは異なり有茎です。大きな３小葉があり、葉縁には棘のような鋸歯があります。冬の終わりごろから春先にかけて、花茎の先に淡緑色の花を咲かせます。花弁のように見える萼片は、花後も長く残ります。

キンポウゲ科ヘレボルス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Helleborus argutifolius。英名は Corsican rose。

The Corsican rose (Helleborus argutifolius) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial evergreen herb that is native to Corsica and Sardinia in the Mediterranean. This species is caulescent, unlike other Helleborus genus. The leaves are three-lobed compound, and the edges of the leaves have thorn-like saw teeth. From the end of winter to early spring, light green flowers bloom at the tip of the flower stalk. The petaloid sepals remain long after flowering.
