The Thicket-dwelling hellebore (Helleborus dumetorum) belongs to Ranunculaceae (the Buttercup family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the northwestern part of the Balkan Peninsula, Romania, Hungary, Austria, and Italy. It grows in forests and grasslands and reaches a height of 25 to 30 cm. The leaves are pedately compound with 11 to 13 lobes. The lobes vary in shape. From February to March, it extends its scape and blooms small grayish-green flowers. In summer, the aboveground parts wither away. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin word "dumetum" (thicket or small shrub), because it is often found in forests.
