The Rock rose (Helianthemum sp.) belongs to Cistaceae (the Rockrose family). It is an annual or a perennial herb, a shrub that is widely distributed in the northern hemisphere, especially along the Mediterranean coast. There are about 110 species in the genus Helianthemum, of which several species and many hybrids derived from them are widely cultivated as ornamental plants. They usually have five petals and are yellow, orange or pink in color. Cultivars also come in a wide range of colors, from bright salmon pink to dark red. The variety in the photograph is probably 'Rhodanthe Carneum'.
