南アフリカが原産です。高さは３０〜９０センチになり、枝を横に伸ばして広がります。卵形の葉は銀色がかった緑色で、グランドカバーや寄せ植えに使われます。６月から７月ごろ、小さな淡黄色の頭花を咲かせます。別名で「リコリスプラント」とも呼ばれます。写真中２・中３の園芸品種名は「オーレア」、中４〜中６は「シルバー」。

キク科ムギワラギク属の多年草で、学名は Helichrysum petiolare。英名は Licorice plant。

The Licorice plant (Helichrysum petiolare) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is native to South Africa. It grows 30-90 cm tall and spreads horizontally with its branches. It produces small, pale yellow flower heads from June to July. The name of the garden variety in the 3rd and 4th photos is 'Aurea' and the name of the garden variety in the 5th to 7th photos is 'Silver'.
