The pineland heliotrope (Heliotropium polyphyllum) belongs to Boraginaceae (the Borage family). It is an annual or perennial herb that is native to Florida in the United States and the northern Bahamas. This herb grows in pinelands, prairies and coastal thickets, and can reach 8-15 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate, vary small with acute tips. The leaf surface is covered with bristle hairs. The flowers are small, white or yellow with yellow centers, and they bloom around the year. On the east coast of South Florida the flowers are yellow and on the west coast the flowers are white.
