The Hereroa tugwelliae belongs to Aizoaceae (the Ice plant family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. It grows in rocky gravelly areas in the mountains and is about 10 cm tall. It is a succulent, mat-like spreading plant. The stems are short and branched into 3 to 5 pieces. There are two to three pairs of leaves on each stem, which are sickle-shaped like fingers, keeled, or almost crescent-shaped. In late winter, it produces a short flower scape with one to three bright yellow flowers. The corolla is about 5 cm in diameter, the petals are double, and the stamens are erect and bunched. The specific epithet is in honor of Mrs. Anna M. Tugwell, a South African plant collector.
