The Sir Daniel Cooper's hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis var. cooperii) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a small evergreen tree that is a variant of the "Rose of China", native to southern China and the Indian Ocean Islands. It was discovered in New Caledonia in 1865 by Sir Daniel Cooper (1821-1902) of Australia. It grows to about 1.8 m tall. The leaves are elliptic with white, light green, or pink spots. New leaves are almost white. The flowers are red and about 10 cm in diameter. There are several well-known garden varieties, such as 'Snow Queen", 'Rose Flake', 'Carnival', and 'Hummels Fantasy'.
