アメリカのテキサス州チボリ近郊に分布しています。メキシコ湾岸の湿地帯や側溝に生え、高さは２．１〜３メートルになります。葉は細長い矢じり形で、ビロードのような灰緑色をしています。５月から８月にかけて、花弁が重なり合った紫色がかったピンク色の大きな花を咲かせます。花弁の中央にはクリーム色から淡黄色の雄しべが目立ちます。

アオイ科フヨウ属の多年草で、学名は Hibiscus cubensis (Hibiscus striatus ssp. lambertianus)。英名は Striped rosemallow、Mexican pink hibiscus。

The Striped rosemallow (Hibiscus cubensis) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed near Tivoli, Texas, in the United States. It grows in marshes and ditches along the Gulf Coast and is 2.1 to 3 m tall. It produces large, purplish-pink flowers with overlapping petals from May to August. The cream to pale yellow stamens are conspicuous in the center of the petals.
