ハワイ諸島のカウアイ島、オアフ島、マウイ島それにハワイ島に分布しています。乾燥した林から湿潤な林に生えます。葉は卵形で光沢があり、縁には鈍鋸歯があります。花は赤色から橙赤色をしています。萼片は筒状で黄色です。花糸が反り返っているのが特徴です。写真は、サーモンピンク色タイプといわれていますが、交配種の可能性もあります。 |

The Red rosemallow (Hibiscus kokio) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a small evergreen tree that is found in the Hawaiian Islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii. It grows in dry to moist forests. The leaves are ovate and shiny with blunt serrations on the edges. The flowers are red to orange-red. The sepals are tubular and yellow. The filaments are recurved. The photo is said to be a salmon pink type, but it may be a hybrid. |
