ハワイのカウアイ島が原産です。幹はアーチ状に直立し、高さは１．８メートルほどになります。葉は卵形で光沢があり、縁には鈍鋸歯があります。花は鮮やかなオレンジ色をしています。

アオイ科フヨウ属の常緑低木で、学名は Hibiscus kokio ssp. saintjohnianus (syn. Hibiscus saintjohnianus)。英名は St. Johns hibiscus。

The St. Johns hibiscus (Hibiscus kokio ssp. saintjohnianus) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed in native to Kauai, Hawaii. The trunk is arching and erect, reaching a height of about 1.8 m. The leaves are ovate and glossy with blunt serrations on the edges. The flowers are bright orange.
