The Lindenleaf rosemallow (Hibiscus furcellatus var. youngianus) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in the West Indies, Central and South America, as well as the states of Florida and Hawaii. It grows in low-altitude swamp forests and wetlands, and can reach a height of around 3 m. The leaves are cordate, and the surface is like fine sandpaper. The flowers are pale pink and bloom all year round, but the flowers only last for one day. The flowers are half-open and droop, so in some parts of Hawaii it is called the "sleepy hibiscus".
