"Hidaka-hana-shinobu" (Polemonium caeruleum ssp. yezoense f. hidakanum) belongs to Polemoniaceae (the Phlox family). It is a perennial herb that is a variety of "Ezono-hanashinobu". It grows in grassland in the mountainous to subalpine zones of the southern Hidaka region of Hokkaido, and is 30-50 cm tall. It has odd pinnate compound leaves that grow in alternate arrangements, and from May to July, it produces corymbs at the end of the stem, producing pale blue-purple flowers.
