ヨーロッパアルプスやアペニン山脈に分布しています。乾燥した岩の多い草地に生え、高さは２５〜３０センチになります。葉は、白色の綿毛が密生しています。根生葉は卵状楕円形から披針形で、全縁かわずかな鋸歯があります。５月から７月ごろ、黄色い頭花が長い花茎の上に、２〜８個ずつ集まって咲きます。花苞は白色の毛に被われています。

キク科ヤナギタンポポ属の多年草で、学名は Hieracium tomentosum (syn. Hieracium lanatum)。英名は Woolly hawkweed。

The Woolly hawkweed (Hieracium tomentosum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial harb that is native to Europe mountains; the Apls and the Apennines. This herb grows in dry, stony glasslands, 800-2100 m elevation, and can reach 25-30 cm in height. The leaves are covered with densely white tomentose. The basal leaves are ovate-elliptic to lanceolate, entire or slightly dentate. The yellow flower-heads bloom in clusters of 2-8 on the long stalks from May to July. The flower bracts are white-hairy.
