わが国の本州から四国、九州に分布しています。母種は「なんざんすみれ」。山地の草原や林縁に生え、高さは１０センチほどになります。葉は５裂し、裂片には細かい切れ込みがあります。４月から５月ごろ、芳香のある白い花を咲かせます。咽には紫色の筋が入ります。

スミレ科スミレ属の多年草で、学名は Viola chaerophylloides var. sieboldiana。英名はありません。

"Higo-sumire" (Viola chaerophylloides var. sieboldiana) belongs to Violaceae (the Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu of Japan. It is a variety of "Nanzan-sumire" (Viola chaerophylloides). This herb grows in montane grasslands or forest-edges and can reach about 10 cm in height. The leaves are divided into 5 lobes and they are further notched finely. The scented white flowers come in April through May. The collora has purple stripes in the throat.
