アフリカの東部、ケニアから南アフリカの東ケープ州にかけて分布しています。池沼の水辺や湿地に生え、高さは２０〜１００センチになります。茎の断面は扁平な三角形です。葉は退化して鞘状となり、茎頂にまとまってつきます。放射状に花梗を伸ばし、多くの花序をだします。

カヤツリグサ科カヤツリグサ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Cyperus prolifer。英名は Miniature flatsedge、Dwarf papyrus。

The Miniature flatsedge (Cyperus prolifer) belongs to Cyperaceae (the Sedge family). It is an evergreen herb that is distributed in eastern Africa, from Kenya to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It grows in ponds, water bodies and wetlands, and is 20 to 100 cm tall. The cross section of the stem is flattened and triangular. The leaves are sheathing and clustered at the top of the stem. The peduncles extend in a radial pattern and produce many inflorescences.
