わが国の本州、中部地方以西から四国、九州に分布しています。池沼や湿地に生え、長円形の葉を水面に浮かべます。「こうほね」よりかなり小さく、「ねむろこうほね」や「おぜこうほね」の近縁種です。６月から１０月ごろ、水面の上に花茎を伸ばして、黄色い花を咲かせます。

スイレン科コウホネ属の多年草で、学名は Nuphar subintegerrimum。英名はありません。

"Hime-koohone" (Nuphar subintegerrimum) belongs to Nymphaeaceae (the Waterlily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from Chubu-district of Honshu west to Shikoku and Kyushu. This herb grows in ponds and swamps, and the oval leaves are floating. This plant is fairly smaller than "Koo-hone", and is related species of "Nemuro-koohone" and "Oze-koohone". The yellow flower bloom on the flowering stalk which rising above water from June to October.
