大西洋のカナリア諸島にあるテネリフェ島とラ・ゴメラ島の固有種です。ゲニスタ・ステノペタラとゲニスタ・カナリエンシスの自然交雑種とされています。幹は直立し、上部で分枝して、高さは１．５〜３メートルになります。葉は３出葉で、倒披針形から狭倒卵形の小葉がつきます。葉の表面は無毛または伏毛があり、下面には密にあります。４月から５月ごろ、茎頂の総状花序に、黄色い蝶形花をいっぱい咲かせます。世界中で栽培されていますが、高温多湿の気候や寒さにも弱いので、わが国では鉢植えでの栽培となります。また全体にアルカロイドを含み、毒性があります。

マメ科ヒトツバエニシダ属の常緑低木で、学名は Genista x spachiana (syn. Cytisus x spachianus)。英名は Sweet broom、Ornamental sweet broom。

The Sweet broom (Genista x spachiana) belongs to Fabaceae (the Pea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is endemic to the islands of Tenerife and La Gomera in the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It is considered a natural hybrid of Genista stenopetala and Genista canariensis. The trunk is erect and branched at the top, reaching a height of 1.5 to 3 m. The leaves are three-lobed with oblanceolate to narrowly obovate leaflets. Yellow papillionaceous flowers bloom in profusion in a raceme at the stem apex from April to May. It is cultivated all over the world, but in Japan it is only grown in potted plants because it is susceptible to hot, humid climates and cold. The entire plant contains alkaloids, which are toxic.
