アラビア半島がアフリカが原産です。現在は、世界の熱帯から亜熱帯にかけて広く帰化しています。わが国でも、本州の近畿地方から関東地方に帰化しています。明るい林地や茂みや小石の傾斜地など生え、高さは１．２メートルほどなります。茎は直立して、よく分枝します。葉は掌状複葉で、狭卵形の小葉が３～５個つきます。夏から秋にかけて、直径２センチほどの黄色い花を咲かせます。果実は円柱形の蒴果で、上を向きます。別名で「きばなひめふうちょう（黄花姫風蝶）」とも呼ばれます。

The tickweed (Cleome viscosa) belongs to Capparidaceae (the Caper family). It is an annual herb that is native to the Arabian Peninsula and Africa. This herb is naturalized widely from tropical to sub-tropical areas. It is also naturalized in Japan; westward from Kanto to Kinki region of Honshu. This herb grows in open woodlands, scrub or scree slopes and can reach 1.2 m in height. The stem is erect and much-branched. The leaves are digitate with 3-5 narrow ovate segments. The yellow about 2 cm across appear from summer to fall. The fruits are columnar capsules and upright.
