"Hime-higotai" (Saussurea pulchella) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a biennial herb that is distributed in various parts of Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, Sakhalin and East Siberia. This herb grows in sunny grasslands and its height is 30-150 cm. The stem stands upright and takes on a purple color. The leaves are lanceolate to broard lanceolate, the lower leaves divide into lobes pinnately. The umbels will be created at the apex of the stem and magenta flower-heads will bloom from August to October. The involucre is bell-shaped, and there are magenta color appendages at the tip of bracts.
