ヨーロッパの南東部から小アジアが原産の「いちごのき」の矮性園芸品種です。高さは１〜３メートルになります。葉は長楕円形から披針形です。葉柄は短く、縁には鋸歯があります。１０月から１２月ごろ、本年枝の上部の節に壺形の白い花を咲かせます。果実は１年後に赤く熟します。果実は酸味があり食用になります。

ツツジ科アルブツス属の常緑低木で、学名は Arbutus unedo cv. Compacta。英名は Dwarf strawberry tree。

The Dwarf strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo cv. Compacta) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a small evergreen tree that is a dwarf horticultural variety of the strawberry tree, which is native to southeastern Europe and Asia Minor. It grows to a height of 1 to 3 m. The leaves are oblong to lanceolate. The petiole is short, and the edges are serrated. From October to December, it produces urn-shaped white flowers at the upper nodes of one year branches. The fruit ripens red one year later. The fruit is sour and edible.
